How To Fix A Clogged Shower Drain
Step 1 How to remove a leaky cap
Just remove the variable cap.
Note: The drip stop has a knob that you lift and turn to open the drain. It has an adjustment screw under the cap.
Step 2 How to Remove a Push/Lock Drain Plug
Push the plug to release it and open the drain. Note: These caps lock and close when pressed and release when pressed a second time.
Remove the cap by holding the stem as you remove the cap. If not, just remove the entire trunk by unscrewing it.
Pro tip: You can change the tension of the screw and rod when reinstalling everything to get a good seal.
Step 3 How to remove the lever cap
Note: Many bathtubs, especially older ones, have a stopper in the drain and overflow tube. Most of them have a lever and an overflow plate and a screen above the drain.
Remove the screen and clean the crossbars.
Open the overflow pan, remove the connector, clean the plug and connector, and drain the water line.
Pro Tip: Sometimes the connection is loose and the plug doesn’t open far enough from its seat to allow proper access. Set it up, install it again and test it. Run the water in the tub. If there is water, stretch the connection of the stop to properly close the water. If the drain does not open to let the water out, loosen the plug connection.
Step 4 Clear The Clog
Thread a small hook on the end of a strong wire (or hanger) and use a pair of needle-nose pliers to attach it to the leg.

Repeat this step if necessary.
If the hair is covered with crossbars, cut it with a useful knife, and hold it with a wire.
